We arrived in Paris on Sunday morning. Despite having been up for nearly 24 hours, we decided not to let jet lag get to us. We rented a car and headed for a friend's house near Disneyland Paris. I have known Sandrine for about 14 years; she was in my class when I was in French high school. She and her boyfriend have a lovely new home near the amusement park, where they both work.
Then Bill and I took the train into Paris. It was hot and muggy, and I had never been to Paris in July (the French call it 'high season' for vacationers). It was terribly crowded but we trudged forth to get the requisite pictures of the monuments. We took a 'bateau mouche' boat tour along the Seine River. And somehow even though we took the subway everywhere, we ended up walking miles!! Maybe it was fatigue but our navigator and French expert (Benita) messed up on the return train and we ended up with a much longer journey than we wanted.
The next day Bill and I went to Disneyland Paris. It was also quite crowded, but we intelligently ran to Space Mountain first and only waited 20 minutes. The park is very similar to the Disneys in the US and frankly felt a little like home.
Tuesday, despite our best judgement, we went back to Paris. We braved the long line to go up on the Eiffel Tower only to have them tell us we couldn't go all the way to the top (too crowded). So we settled for the second level. We also saw Sacre Coeur and Notre Dame; Bill was quite impressed by the interiors of these ancient churches.
