We took a week-long road trip to Utah and Arizona, a beautiful area of the country we had never seen. Warm, windy weather and incredible scenery.

First day we drove to Hurricane, Utah, then spent a day biking in Bryce Canyon National Park. We drove through Zion National Park to get there, which was just a bonus! Our bike ride was about 35 miles, all above 8000' elevation. The skies threatened rain all day, but it didn't start until we got back to the truck!

The next day we packed up and headed for the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Surprisingly uncrowded, and luckily we were there the day before a controlled burn became a raging fire.

Heading from the Grand Canyon to our rafting start point, we drove across Glen Canyon Dam, and saw Lake Powell. We spent most of the day driving across endless miles of open road on Indian reservations. So much vast space! Near sunset, we drove through Monument Valley.

The next day we rafted 27 miles of the San Juan River in southeastern Utah. Swift moving water, but only class II rapids. The guide was so knowledgeable about the history of the region and took us on various side hikes to see Pueblo ruins, Indian petroglyphs, fossils and amazing geological formations.
